David's CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS REEL

For those of you that havent seen it yet, I thought I would post my shots from CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS on my blog. I couldnt get all the shots that I did but this is a pretty good
representation of my contribution to the movie.
I hope you enjoy it. And more importantly I hope you've seen the movie. If not get out there and
see it. You do NOT want to miss this one.

  1. Wow, ok so I just replied to your comment on my blog without realising who you were, and now I'm on yours and honestly, entirely starstruck XD Cloudy is one of my absolute favourite movies - I completely loved everything about the film: design, animation, story, it had everything! Ok, I'm gushing...stop. *cough*

Really, as a student and lover of Animation, some of the films you've worked on have been highlights of inspiration. You should have seen the hundreds of dragon drawings littering the class after we watched How To Train Your Dragon for the 4th time at the cinema XD Anyway, I'm glad that I can now see your links and updates on this blog, as it'll be really inspiring seeing all the progress, when usually we only ever see the (albeit amazing) end products. I'm sure as an ex student you know how eye-opening it is for us to see our heros like yourself working in ways that we understand, making it a much more human process instead of the glittering, incomprehensible magic it usually seems!

Anyway, thanks again for commenting on my (admittedly embarrassing) blog. It's really inspired me to get back to the drawing board and create something amazing to show you, after a number of months of trying to find out where I was heading in this profession. I'm sure you get this all the time from students like myself, but then, it's your fault for making such fantastic films ^_^ As you said, keep it up! :P

  2. Love the reel! This movie is one of my favs. How was it working on the film? What were the main challenges as an animator? Cheers!

  3. Thank you both for your compliments on my reel and the movies I've worked on. It's always such an amazing feeling to hear what people think because unlike actors and directors we're pretty much behind the scenes and dont hear people's opinions. All we get to really hear are the box office numbers which arent the personal accounts of what people think of our movies.
Sorry for not responding earlier though. I have recently been working very hard on Kung Fu Panda 2 and havent had much time to update my blog. However I have promised that this year I definately am going to start posting more and also creating more of my own stuff. So please keep checking back in.
To answer your questions Dapper Dan, I came on to the movie half way through and immediately loved the characters. The story needed some work when I first started but it quickly got cleaned up and I loved it. I thought the animation was going to be really hard because it was so realistic compared to Cloudy. And I do have to admit the transition took a bit of getting used to but overall I think I got some nice shots on the movie. Hopefully I'll get a chance to post my Dragons reel soon.

Thank you so much Alexandra and Dapper Dan. Keep checking back. And if you dont see anything new. HOUND ME TO GET SOME NEW STUFF UP.
